Fernando Alonso Díaz was born on July 29th, 1981 in Oviedo, in the Asturias province of northern Spain. He is a famous Spanish Formula One racing driver with several wins to his credit. A two-time world champion nicknamed El Nano; Alonso won four junior Spanish championships consecutively from 1993 to 1996. He also won Junior World Cup in 1996. Continuing his winning streak, Alonso bagged the Spanish and Italian Inter-A titles twice in 1997 and 1998. His winning streaks continued as if he was born to win.
Alonso's mother worked in a department store while his father was an explosives expert with a mining industry. Little Alonso, as a child, took part in karting competitions around Spain. His family lacked requisite finance to push Alonso into a motorsport career. However his brilliant winning ways on tracks secured him sponsorships and the needed funds to put him on the racing tracks.
At 20, Alonso was the third youngest driver ever to start a F1 race when he made his debut with Minardi at the 2001 Australian grand prix. In 2002, he test-drove for Renault and eventually secured a seat the following year along side Jarno Trulli, since Briatore dropped Button.
For the 2005 season, he teamed up at Renault with Italian Giancarlo Fisichella. At Chinese grand prix, He also won the 1st Constructor’s Championship for his Renault team.
Alonso also has become the youngest racer at 24 years and 58 days to ever win the World Driver's Championship title on September 25th, 2005. He thus broke the record of Emerson Fittipaldi, who was the youngest F1 champion until then. Alonso with his record-breaking feat has also achieved the honor of ending the reign of Michael Schumacher's run of five consecutive championships. Repeating his winning feats again in 2006 season, Alonso clinched the championship title beating Michael Schumacher, who finished fourth in the final race.
The constant winner, Alonso has currently moved over to McLaren team for his 2007 season.
Fernando Alonso Díaz, who now lives in Oxford, England, also owns a house near Lake Geneva, Switzerland.
